Fairfield’s Opportunity--Don’t Let It Slip ByI lt;•Fairfield bids fair to have not only the distinction of being the home cf«■«*• ' mrnt, m m the only national guard company in this section of the state, and one of eleven in the entire state, but also of being the home of the regimental band, with the famous Fairfield band designated to this high honor.Efforts to recruit a national guard company of at least 100 members were meeting with good results under the direction of Henry Oliver. But Mr. Oliver entered the service and the work lapsed for a time. Later Forrest Wright was commissioned to recruit the remaining members of the company needed and he has energetically devoted himself to the task, succeeding in bringing the number recruited up to sixty.Telephone communication with Adjutant General Lascher Thursday developed the fact that either the adjutant general or some one from his office would be in Fairfield in the next few days, at which time there would be held a public meeting and the matter of a full enlistment for the local company settled up.Other cities are applicants for the honor of having a national guard company and are insistent. Fairfield cannot dally about it any longer. If Fairfield gets the company the full complement of 100 members must be signed up at once. There is now the added incentive of the honor and aid the local band will receive by being made the regimental band. This is a high honor to be paid to the Fairfield band and maybe regarded as a recognition of itsmerits. The advertising accruing to Fairfield by reason of having the regimental band located here is inestim-and instant active efforts of every loyal citizen. There is also the fact able and is a matter to get the interestthat there would be a considerable financial aid to the band in this appointment—something no more greatly merited than it is needed.Everyone who believes in giving Fairfield a boost and who believes in boosting the band in the state should make a personal effort to see that the needed forty additional recruits for the guard company are signed up at once. Fairfield cannot afford to sleep on this job and permit this big opportunity to pass.
