Owen-boro Affair—Gallant Conduct, Ac., ac.Out readers are aware of the guerrilla; raid upon Owensboro last Saturday in j 1 which the gallant Col. Nettcr lost his life. { | Col. Fournier of this county, happening • to be on the 6teamer McCombs, ou his i way from Evansville to Cannelton, and j hearing of the affair, immediately ha J the | steamer put hack to Enterprize, a small ; village below Hock port, in Spencer conn*' ty, where, in a few hours time, ho raised j a force of about 500 men; with these lie i crossed to Uon Harbor, tluec miles belowI| Owensboro, and placing himself at the head of the recruits marched boldly to Owensboro, determined to punish the guerrillas and again plaeo the town in the Union and under Federal anlhority, but the bird in the meantime had down, and our gallant Colonel lost the oppoi (unity cf giving him a good drubbing. This, however, does not in the least detract from the well earned praise awarded to Colonel Fournier by everybody for his prompt and decisive measures to i id the town of the presence of prowling marauders. All honor to Colonel Fournier, such willingness to fight, gives him the soldier’s right to tire stars mid plumes of his office.
