Nelson W. Marshall.(Taken from Clay County History) Nelson W. Marshall, the oldest son of Isom and Ellen (Ollis) Marshall, was born in Washington county, Ind.. March 4, 1839. His parents were natives of Kentucky and of Irish descent. Mr. Marshall was a farmer and a tock raiser.In January, 1862, Mr. Marshall enlisted in Company F, 59th Regimentof Indiana Volunteer Infantry, andserved until April 8, 1865, and washonorably discharged after having participated in 40 engagements. In 1864, by order of the commander, he and 22 others were vaccinated, and out of this number 20 died. On November 19, 1865, he married Sarah E. Chambers (deceased), to which union seven children were born—Mary E.,(deceased), Charles C., Ota (deceased), James C. (deceased), Uriah S. (deceased), Ivan R., and Bernice. Mr. Marshall is a member of Post 196, 1G. A.
