Wilmington’s Nike Battery, 4 miles southwest of the city on Route 730, is bustling with activity as the Army’s missilemen move in. Col. Charles R. Arvin, who is in command of the four Nike bases in the Cincinnati Defense Area, with headquarters here, has officially taken over his assignment. He and his family have established resi dence at 116 N. Walnut St. A 40-man group arrived at the Wilmington battery Friday. Some of these will be assigned here and others will go to batteries at Felic ity, Oxford and Dillsboro, Ind. There are approximately 140 soldiers on the local base now and when assignments are completed, probably in November, the total strength here will be about 270. Wilmington is batallion head quarters for the four sites. Wil mington has Battery A, Felicity, B, Dillsboro, C and Oxford, D. The Cincinnati Defense Area is part of the Second Regional Air Defense Command which has its headquarters at Ft. Meade, Md.
