Walt WritesFrom Sicily• nctorDear Tom Herb*Hello boys, how is everyone in the old town? Well I am in another strange country I saw many things since I last wrote you.Had a front seat on the invasion of this island which in itself has a few stories. I will tell you about them after this is all over I’ve seen quite a lot of this island, right now we are having a few days off to give us a rest after all our hard workWe slept in the open for quite some time with the sky as our blanket and our fox holes dug : beside our bed on the ground j The ants and bugs kept us j company We are now staying in a building, but our beds sure are hard We are all dreaming of the day when we can come home a-gam It will b# a graat day for all of us.We sure get tired of all this I hash and stew that we get to eat I went for six weeks without a slice of bread I don’t know what becomes of all the steak and pork We sure don’t get it Maybe better days will comeA lot of people here can speak EnglishIt is really hot here and a few good beers would really taste good We received our June and July pay yesterday We don’t get much news and don’t know hat is going on in the rest of the worldMy wife is doing a swell job of running my cafe I would sure like to be back at the Wonderland again.Say hello to all the boys, and good luck. From your friend, Walter Forthofer
