Kearns Memorial FVW Post 6025 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will host the annual Pow/Mia Recognition Day, Saturday, Sept. 19.The ceremony is open to the public and will begin at 10 a.m. at the Mission Viejo Library at the corner of Marguerite and La Paz.“We are very fortunate to be able to host this ceremony conducted,” said Todd Tomasko, commander of Post 6024. “As the only veterans group here in Mission Viejo, we felt that it was important and our duty to bring this event home to our citizens.”The VFW will honor two Orange County men who work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers—Los Angeles District. Archeologists Steve Dibbel and Rod McLean both have traveled to Vietnam to recover the remains of American personnel lost almost 30 years ago.Also to be honored at the ceremony will be several former prisoners of war and the surviving wife of another. They are Melvin Wancowicz, Bernard Resnicoff, Fred Peppers, George Christoff, Don VErsaw and Luis Franco. Mrs. Tona Hicks, the-widow of Harold Hicks will be recognized at the ceremony.
