Nichols:Throughout the meeting music wa, furnished by the Harrison Military the Capps Quartette and a num-of .soloists who sang the songs of 'liaif a century ago. In a way that delighted the old soldiers. A picnic dinner Friday was served In elegant style by the Daughters of the Confederacy, and on Saturday morning an auto drive to all parts of the town took the place of'the parade. Friday night a special entertainment was given at the Lyric Theatre, where a touching war story was supplemented with a cheerful musical act by the Spmmer Girls Minstrels.but what In passing, all too qulckjy. by the milestones one by one, wo touch the rough places', and desplto all our efforts and oil our plans, we drink the “bitter with the sweet. All along life’H journey we pave the’way with good intentions, nnd when we follow the dictates of our own hearts, we do the kindly things which make life worth while; but all too often do we let tho things less worth w'hile creep in and stifle many of our good impulses almost before they are born. In other words, no one passes down life’s highway without many vain regrets, and as we see You. our dear old veterans, nearing the end of the road, and realise that 'ere long weil see tho passing of the last old boy In gray our hearts are filled with many regrets that we, as Daughters of the Confederacy, have left undone so many things that might have helped you, cheered you ahd proven to you that no cause will over be so dear to us as The Lost Cause, no flag so appealing as the Stars and Bars.” no yell so thrilling as the rebel yell, no song so Inspiring as Dixie’s strains, and no title so coveted as A Daughter of the South. And when tho lust roll is called In camp—and there’ll be no one to answer to his name, and laps’’ sound a last good night, one of our sweetest memories will be of you —our dear old vets In gray.
