Thev reiterate their damuable lies in the face of facts that are as clear to the tair-thinkiug as the crystal waters of Como. Out of 260.940 federal prisoners in the South, only 22,596 died;I while out of 200.000 confederate prisoners in tbe North, the number of deaths were 26.4S5. These figures reveal a story that bears with it a nificance that cannot be mistaken.; Let it be borne in mind, also, that the North was much better prepared in its resources for food and medicine1 than was the South, and then reconcile if you can the fact that with over 60,000 less confederate soldiers in Northern prisons thsn there were federal soldier* in Southern prisons, ( the uumbcr of deaths among the for-1 mcr exceeded the number among the ilatter more than 4,000.
