Paymaster Visits Camp and the Soldiers Hope to Reach Home in Time to Attend the Last Day of the Falr--Other News In Camp.Lexington, Ky., Sept 9, 1898.At no time sicee Company • P left Mb.Gretna have the boys been in such high spirits as they are this week over the bright prospects of the regiment being given a 30 days’ furlough and perhaps mustered out. A strong influence has been at work for some time to get the Filth out of service and it seems now that- it is to succeed, and the enlisted men of the regiment are jubilant over the thought of their probable release within a few weeks. Another thing that has brightened the faces oi‘ so many this week is the number of friends from the Keystone Estate who were attending the G. A. E. Encampment at Cincinnati, and came on south to visit Camp Hamilton. Company F had pleasant visits from the following* John H. Hill, Esq., J. W. Neal, G. W. Wheeler, Ross Coleman, Noah Livingston and J. M. Marshall, of Indiana; Samuel Kerr, of Armstrong township; David Hammer, of Somerset county; Mr. and Mrs. Coleman, of Con-emaugh township.Arthur Russell secured a five days’ leave of absence on Tuesday, and left for Louisville, Ky., ‘with a party of Indiana folks to visit Mammoth Cave. Sergeant James Kauffman was granted a ten days’ furlough, and left Wednesday for Ms home, near Homer City. Roy den Taylor left for Indiana Wednesday on a 30 days’ sick furlough. He wag accompanied by James Hammers, who is off on 10 days’ leave of absence.An order was issued on Wednesday to grant no more furloughs in the Fifth under any circumstances. This is another indication that some important move is likely to take place.The cold days and nights of the xiast week have filled the boys .with life and every thing possible is resorted to for amusement and to relieve the hilarious humor of tht men. At night, however, an extra blanket is needed so a requisition for SO new wool blankets has been sent in.
