He studied seamanship, as well as survival techniques, militarydrill and other basic subjects.$ $ $An Army unit that took part in the Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1903 has again arrived in the Far East for combat service. The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment landed this week.The highly mobile regiment was last stationed at Fort George G. Meade, MdPrivate First Class Richard H. Kruchten, 20. son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert R. Kruchten, 17215 Longfellow. Hazel Crest, was scheduled to accompany the unit as a reconnaissance scout in Troop G of the 11th Regiment's 2d Squadron.Kruchten entered on active duty in November 1965 and completed basic training at Fort Carson. Colo.He is a 1964 graduate of Marian Catholic high school in Chicago Heights.Private Earl L. Knies, 21.son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis G. Knies, 18637 Marshfield, Homewood, was scheduled to accompany the unit as a scout in Troop L of the regiment's 3d Reconnaissance Squadron.Pvt. Knies entered the Army in October 1965 and completed basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado.He was graduated from Homewood - Flossmoor high school, Flossmoor, in 1964 and attended Bloom Township Junior college, Chicago Heights.Private James J. Bowers, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Bowers, 4535 West 143rd street, Midlothian, was scheduled to accompany the unit as a scout in Troop I, 3rd Reconnaissance Squadron.Pvt. Bowers entered the Army in November 1965. He is a 1963 graduate of Bremen high school, Midlothian.His wife, Diane, lives at 15811 South Whipple street, Markham.Private James R. Ward. 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold N. Ward. 706 East 155th street, South Holland, was scheduled to accompany the unit as a senior scout in Troop K, 3d Re-Reconnaissance Squadron.Pvt. Ward entered the Army in October 1965.He attended Thomridge high school. Dolton.
