Local Soldier* . *Gets PromotionLt. John H, Whitman, .son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Whitman of 829 Wallace ave, has been promoted to the rank of first lieutenant Lt. Whitman is serving with the Army Transportation corps at San Francisco’s port of embarkation.Lt. Whitman entered the armed forces in 1941 in Los Angeles where he served with the air corps m various motor transportation and supply divisions until his separation in 1944. In 1948 he returned to active duty and after a short period of service at Beneeia arsenal, was assigned to overseaduty in Korea with the 7th Infantry division as assistant ordnance supply officer. Last June, he was transferred to San Francisco where he is currently serving with the chemical division at the port of embarkation.Lt. Whitman resides with his wife, Alice J. and two children, Carol Ann and John Richard, at 5825 Keith st, Oakland, Cal.
