B. ’Wicklifle, in his letter republished in this paper yesterday, says: “ I happen to know very well who Osmnn Pasha i«*, as 1 have corresponded with him for several rears, and have received lettersfrom him sinceneon Rivenhe hascommand of a division of the* Turkish army. Osman Pasha is an American—a na-tive'af Hawkins county, Tenn. His name is R. Clay Crawford. He was colonel of a regiment of artillery during1 the late war between the States.. He afterwards entered the service of the Liberal Government of Mexico, and was made a general of a division. He created considerable stir by the capture of Bagdad, Mexico, passing his forces over the Rio Grande from the Texas shore. He finally quarrelled with Juarez, the Mexican President, and returned to the United States with a large fortune. He resided for several years at a beautiful country-seat on the Delaware near Philadelphia. His restless disposition caused him to seek excitement, and he entered the service of the Khedive of Egypt, was soon after transferred to the service of the Sultan, andcommanded the Turkish army at Plevna.”CRAWFOnn SENTENCED TO THE PENITENTIARY.The Louisville Courier-Journal and Knoxville Tribune add to Wickliffe’s letter that Crawford was appointed by Andy Johnson a cadet to West Point; that he wasexpelled from that institution; that he spent sometime in New York, and then m company with a young woman started for Tennessee; that, accompanied by his paramour, he had gotten as far as Wythcville, Va.; that there he robbed an old cattle-dealer and was apprehended, convicted, and sent to tiie Virginia penitentiary.TESTIMONY OF TIIE CLERK OF WYTHE., Yesterday a telegram was sent to the clerk of the Circuit Court of Wythe asking him if it was trjic that Clay Crawford had been con-victed of roblery in that county, and the following was bis reply:“ Wythevn.t.EjVa., September 10,1877.“ The record here shows that C. Crawford and R. C. Clifford were convicted of burglary and sentenced for five years’ imprisonment in the State penitentiary on the 10thday of October, 1853. !“William B.
