Mathew A. Tinley was the Commanding General, Chas. H. Grahl, Brigadier General, and George F. Everest, Colonel, and they have issued joint letters of praise for the 168th. Chas. H. Grahl, who is also adjutant general, wrote the following to the commanding officers of Headquarters Company, and to Major O. W. Harris:I wish to express to you and the officers and enlisted men of your regiment, my sincere appreciation for the splendid manner in which they functioned during the Fourth Army maneuvers. During the entire period, not a single instance was called to my attendtion of any officer or enlisted man doing anything to bring discredit to the State of Iowa. On the contrary, I heard many favorable comments relative to the conduct, efficiency and fine appearance of the Iowa troops. You and the officers and enlisted men of your regiment are to be commended for the record made. It is gratifying indeed, to receive only favorable reports regarding the troops of this state,“I feel confident the record made during the training period just ended, will be an incentive to maintain the high standard of efficiency of all units of the Iowa National Guards and to strive to make them even better in the future.”Harris PromotedThe people of this part of Iowa will be interested to know that Major O.
