Fenker, Sandus-ky physician, has again received an honor that was due him for 4.1 years when he was wounded in World War I. It was March 31, 1918 when Doctor Fenker was gassed while in action overseas.The latest honor is a citation that has been due the doctor since that time. Now after 43 years, through the efforts of Reinhardt N. Ausmus and the American Legion, Doctor Fenker has been issued the Purple Heart medal and certificate.The medal and certificate of his Purple Heart award was presented to Doctor Fenker at the•meeting of Commodore Post 83, American Legion, here last night, The presentation was made by Ausmus, Post service officer. 'This is the second time that Doctor Fenker has' received long delayed honors. It was just abouta year ago that Ausmus, after many years of effort and cooperation from the national headquarters of the American Legion and Congressman A. D. Saumhart Jr.* that an error was corrected in the discharge papers of the physician. His discharge papers stated he was a lieutenant at time of discharge, however the fact was thatas a captam.The correction of the dischargeand bestowing the proper rank for the doctor after 42 years was a story that was published nationwide in many publications.Doctor Fenker stated that he was most honored ana grateful for the Purple Heart medal andcitation and, he has commended Ausmus for his many years of service and efforts. Doctor renk-er said that he is pleased to have the honorable discharge papers now showing he served as captain and that he is also among those so honored in being awarded the Purple Heart.DR.
