Mauney enlisted in the armed services Febtuary 14. 1LM2, and hi?* first service overseas was in the Non.. African campaign, where he distinguished himself as one of the heroes i ot the campaign and was awarded the distinguished service cross for gallon-, try in action. From Sicily he was sevu to Kngland last November and was among the invading forces to land on the Normandy beachhead. He was also awarded the Silver Star for heroism displayed in the North African campaign.Lt. Mauney was a graduate of the Lincolnton High school and of Stale lt;oilege, and before going into service was connected with the Washington Mills, at Fries, Va.
