25 Area Men Enlisted For U.S. Naval ServiceTwenty-five area men has recently enlisted in the United States Navy through the Rocky Mount Navy Recruiting Branch Station located in the Post Office building, according to the local Navy recruiters, Chief Alfred Jefferson and Chief David Wetherington.The recruits, practically all of whom will train at Great Lakes, Illinois., are as follows:Thomas Deloatch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry N, Deloatch, of Route 1, Seaboard, N. C., Thomas is a graduate of Gum-berry High SchoolRobert Melville Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs, R. J. Beaman of Wilson. Robert attended Charles L. Coon High School.James Cordon Davis, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James C.Davis, Sr. of Wilson. James is a graduate of Ralph L. Fike, High School, and will train at San Diego, California.Charles Thomas Boswell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Boswell of Wilson, Charles is a graduate of Ralph L. Fike High School.George Clayton Worrell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Worrell, Sr. of Wilson. George is a graduate of Ralph L. Fike High School.John Edward Overton, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Overton of Roanoke Rapids. John is a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School.Alton Ray Cain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar L. Cain of Roanoke Rapids. Alton is a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School.Harry Lee Holliday, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Holliday, Sr. of Roanoke Rapids. Charles is a graduate of Saratoga Central High School.Sides To DukeR. L. (Bob) Sides, executive vice president of Citizens Savings and Loan Assn. and former judge of City Juvenile Court, was taken to Duke Hospital Sunday morning after internal hemorrhaging resumed.Sides was recuperating from a serious operation performed earlier to correct internal bleeding. Hospital officials said his condition is critical.John Emmett Dew„ son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Dew of Route 2, Rocky Mount. John attended West Edgecombe High SchoolOsborn Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Williams of Route 3, Enfield. Osborn is a graduate of Inborden High School.Clifford Corneilus Baxley, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Mosley of Weldon. Clifford! attended Weldon High School. He enlisted under the 120-DayProgram.Those enlisting under the High School Graduate Training Program are assured the best training modern industry can provide in a trade school of the field of their choice.SPRING HOPE — A special meeting of Tar Heel Engineering Manufacturing Company stockholders was called to vote on the issuance of debenture bonds to the general public and to show off some of tthe firm’s new machinery.Therman Edwards, president, and Tar Heels chief engineer, Carl Woodard, explained tie workings of a power squaring shear which just recently was installed, and told of the firm’s latest acquisition,^ a pressbrake—companion piece to the shear.To first machine will cut sheets of steel up to a quarter of an inch thick and at a length up to 10 feet. With the press brake, Tar Heel can form this same material into any of the various shapes or angles desired.
