Bart-ling of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran church and the soloist was Wilford Prest, accompanied by the district No. 87 School band.Harry Harmon, Americanism chairman of the 9th District of Illinois, gave the dedication address. He spoke of the new Legion home and its service to the community. Any ex-service man of World War I or World War II is eligible for membership. The organizers of the Post hope that the veterans of World War II will take an active interest in the new home, for in the future they will have the active management of the Post. All ejc-service men are cordially invited to attend the meetings at the temporary headquarters at the Fire House in Northlake.The site of the new home at Fullerton and Roy avenues, was chosen because it is centrally located in the Post district, boundaries of which are 25th avenue, Fullerton, Mannheim road, St. Paul railroad, County Line, and North avenue.Out-of-town guests from Charles Roth Post No. 692 were James J. Keefe, commander; John Newton, finance officer; Frank Jen-dras, music director; William Ehl-ers, Edward Marsh, O. Tranberg, William Jones, O. Alsbury, drum corps; Ina Mae Jones, drum major. Rohde Post No. 888, broke the ground with an attractively decorated shovel presented him by Miss Shirley Fenhaus and Miss Marian Kieffer. The shovel and the first hammer used will be cased to adorn the walls of the club room of the new home.After the ceremonies the parade assembled at Fullerton and Roy and marched down Wolf road to the carnival grounds at North and Wolf. Leading the parade was a Northlake fire truck, followed by Commander Derry, Mrs. Helen Carne, president of the auxiliary, and Fire Chief Wilbur Fenhaus. Next in line of march came the officers of the Ninth District and their colors; the Melin-Romer drum and bugle corps; the colors of the Howard H. Rohde Post and their Auxiliary; visiting boy scout troop No. 150, Franklin Park, and No. 152, Mannheim school; the District No. 87 School band; the Northlake Boy Scout Troop No. 151; Northlake Campfire Girls; a group of boys and girls on gaily decorated bicycles; the Charles Roth Post drum and bugle corps, led by drum major, Ina Mae Jones; members of the Howard H. Rohde Post Legion and Auxiliary; and the Northlake baseball team.Upon arrival at the carnival grounds, Gordon Whitting, 152 Country Club drive, of the Bowman Dairy company, gave each of the Boy Scouts and the Campfire Girls a refreshing bottle of chocolate milk.In the Boy Scout contest Troop No. 151, Northlake, won first prize on all points, $5; Troop No. 150, Franklin Park won $2.50; and Troop No. 152, Mannheim school won $2.50.In the decorated bicycle contest, first prize was awarded to Richard Kuborn, 118 south Hillside, $3; second prize, Billy Dun-hill, 115 south Roy avenue, $2. Honorable mention was given to Connie Anderson, 28 Dodd avenue; Don Thiel, 111 South Marilyn avenue; George Korth, 333 Geneva avenue; Kenneth Foringer, 135 Armitage avenue; Raymond Haney, 127 south LaVergne ave-nue. • 'In the costume contest prizes were won by Bobby Norek, 105 North Marilyn avenue, $3 and Sam Alfeno,. 105 North Marilyn avenue, $2. *.In the group contest, the Campfire Girls won first prize, $2.50.Judges of the contests were 1st Lt. William E. Dycus, Harry Burton and Evald Skogsberg.Highlight of the afternoon was a water fight between fire department teams from Brookfield arid Northlake. Winner of the fight was Northlake. Due to the breaking down of one of the fire trucks, the scheduled fight between Northlake and Franklin Park was cancelled.
