BANDIT TO GET REMAINDEROF RANSOM FOR AVIATORSiSan Antonio, Tex.—Jesus Renteria, j the Mexican bandit leader, will receive f the additional $6,500 which Captain t Leonard Mat lack saved, when he dug his spurs into his horse and escaped across the border with Lieutenant Paul H. Davis, one of the two aviators captured by the bandits after Lieutenant Harold G. Peterson had crossed the line between the two coun* 1 tries. This announcement was made Tuesday by Major General Joseph T. Dickiuan, Southern department com- !mander.Renteria will be notified that themoney w ill be paid to him, or his heirs will be notified should the report he has been killed be confirmed. No effort will be made to capture Renteria or his agents when they appear to receive the money, and the bandit trail will not be considered “hot ’In the matter of the payment of the aviators’ ransom, General Dickman took the position that it was “up to the United States to come clean,’* and he was supported in this view by the war department at Washington.
