FIND SKELETONS OF 3 SOLDIERSi 1t I • 1 * * • *George Woodward Turns Up Gold With Bones Near Barlow’s KnollA discovery made by George Wood- ward on Saturday adds three more s j to the list of bodies of soldiers who : j were killed in the Buttle of Gettys-s burg, that have been found this sum-■ mer.Mr. Woodward was hunting bullets « in the field of the Alms House farm, l north of Howard Avenue and directly l west of Barlow's Knoll, On the t freshly plowed soil he saw what he ; believed was human bones and scratching with his umbrella became eon-i vinced that he had located a fullskeleton. He secured a shovel and within a space about eight feet square found the remains of three men. As in the case of the others found this summer only the heavy bones remained. None of the three were more than fifteen inches below thesurface.Among the bones were found two five dollar gold coins of dates of 1833 and 1844, two bullets* portions of shoes, and as a convincing means of identification as to the side upon which they fought, nine brass buttons, one bearing .the coat of arms of the State of New York, the others of the regulation Eagle pattern that was worn on the United States army uniform of that period*' A number of iron trouser buttons, musket caps and small buttons were also found.Mr. Woodward assembled the bones j and i-eburied them. They will be delivered to Acting Superintendent Koch at the National Cemetery for burial today.
