Military Detachment with Machine Guns Set toPrevent Sabotage,BRIDGE ALSO IS GUARDEDThe United States Army tookover the defense of the American Sault locks Sunday against possible sabotage as the European world once more turned to war.Shortly after 1 o’clock a detachment of 20 infantrymen from Fort Brady, armed with 30 calibre machine guns^in addition to their personal arms, replaced the civilian lock guards that had been placed on Saturday to keep visitors from the lock walls. The soldiers were under direct command of Capt. Kenneth H. Kinsler. As they stalked the lock walls with affixed bayonets, behind a hastily thrown-up fence barricade, the scene was reminiscent of the days of 1917-18—the last previous time the locks were under military guard.Shipping through the locks was not questioned nor were the Sunday trips of the sight-sccing steamer Bidc-a-Wee stopped. But literally thousands of Labor Day weekend tourists were turned back and had to be content to see the locks across the top of the fence which was placed in government park to the south of the Weitzel lock.vfe if a'Ut briibbi] cpfrafS fffq h tc^gby^ ernment park and Brady'field was brought to a stop by barricades that were placed acros the entrances.Col.
