Fowler Presented Gift to Town—Has Two Sons in ServiceAn honor roll containing the names of 250 young: men in the service of the nation was erected upon the lawn of the Congregational cliurch Friday afternoon.This beautiful aad fitting tributeto the . Maynard soldiers and sailorsis the gift to tne community of Mrs. O. S. Fowler, Brooks at. Mrs. Fow-ler has two sons in the service, Guy-er, an ambulance driver with the French army, and Harry, a sergeant in the Coast Artillery corps. She is a public spirited woman, always taking great interest in the affairs for the betterment of Maynard and especially since the declaration of war, and giving freely of her time and service. From the lirst Mrs. Fowler was select-, ed as president of the Maynard Red Cross branch, which office she has filled with merit and success. She is also regent of Old Concord chap* ter, D, A. R,The honor roll is of beautiful construction, measuring 18x7 feet, and contains five tablets, each 4x3 feet, o)a which is inscribed the names. A golden eagle with widespread wings adorns the top panel which is done in red white and blue and contains the following inscription, “As God gives us to see the right.” In large letters are the word, “Maynard Men in the War for Freedom and Democracy.” —Additional names will later be added as others are called to the colors. If any names have been omitted, it is diie to an oversight on the xurt of the painter or they were overlooked in compiling the long list. The names I of these men will be added as soon as possible and from time to time the names of all Maynard men will be | placed in the honor roll.The site on which the honor roll is I-1 placed was selected owing to its a prominence in the very center of,the’ n 1 business section of the town, though the donor would prefer to place it up-5 I on a plot owned by the town, which a I of course is impossible as the town owns nonsuch site, other than John q | A.
