OVERSEAS VETERAN TO DRILL STUDENTS HAS GREAT RECORDMissoula, Sept. 2.—First Sergeant Janies L. Padgette, United States infantry, recently detailed by the war department for duty as assistant to the professor of military science and tactics at the State University, has reported ta Major Cron for duty.Sergeant Padgette has an envialbe record as a veteran of the World war. He went to France with the fir*t American troops in June, 1917 as a member of the famous First division, and participated in all the important engagements of that great organization. A t the battle of Cantigny he was gassed; at Sois-sons he was wounded by machine gun fire; and in the Meuse-Argonne offensive he was wounded by shrapnel fragments, one of which he still carries. He also participated in the St. Mihie! offensive in which,however, he escaped unscathed.For his services he received theCroix de Guerre from General Pe-tain; tlie American ^Distinguished Service Cross and a citation by General Liggett commander of the Second army.Sergeant Padgette is a native of Montana, his home Using Poison.
