Pfc. James W, Shank, whose wife, Patricia, lives'at 333 Elizabeth Avenue and father, Carl T. Shank at 123 North Cannon Avenue, Hagerstown, recently participated in a lengthy field training exercise with the 4th Armored Division in Grafen* wohr, Germany, according to a special dispatch to this newspaper.The division, a major element of the NATO shield of defense in Europe, conducted the training to determine unit efficiency under simulated combat conditions.A mechanic in Company A of the division's 12Sth Ordnance Battalion in New Ulm, Shank entered the Army in June 1958. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C., and arrived in Europe last March.Shank attended Hagerstown High School and was employed by Fearnow and Cline, Inc., before entering the Army.
