Itwas reported to me that rebel cavalry wasmoving to mv r;ght, ind I sent one companyof tho 5ih Ohio cavalry in That diredion to•guard that position. Major General Ord now direeled me to move up Colonel Scoti’a two regiments to gome thsek woods on the rightist my line on the hill of Matamora. The movement w»h executed in good order, and in a I very short time toy whole command was in line on the high ridge of Matanmra. The batteries, during this time, had got into position—Bolton near the road, and Buruop on the right—all were doing mostefiic cut service. The firing at first was spirited irotn the rebel batteries, but it gradually slackened, and it was evideut that they were being disabled by the telling shots from our side.General Ord now directed me to advance my whole line. The movement was executed rapidly and in excellent order.
