Mackenzie and Rupertus will leave fleet activities here Sunday to take up stations for the fourth manned space flight in the Gemini series.The two ships will make up the Western Pacific Recovery. Force in the event the space flight is terminated in the western Pacific.In addition, the destroyers Kenshaw and Cochrane and the fleet oilers Kawishiwi and Chipola departed Pearl Harbor Saturday to take up stations in the irtifl-Pacific recovery area.The Western Pacific Recovery Force is commanded by Cdr. George E. Barton, embarked on the Mackenzie, while Capt. W. W, Turner, embarked on the Cochrane, as commander Destroyer Division 252, commands the Mid-Pacific Recovery Force.The combined units are under »s-} the overall command of Rear Adm. Henry S. Persons, who is the commander of Task Force 130, the Department of Defense’s recovery force for manned space missions. He will direct the force’s operations from'the Pacific Recovery Control Center near Pearl Harbor.In addition to the six Navy ships, 14 Air Force planes and two Coast Guard and two Navy aircraft are standing by at bases from San Diego, Calif., to Singapore to assist astronauts Walter Schirra and Tom Stafford in the event a Pacific landing is made.
