Served 20 Months OverseasCharles H. Hosford, son of Mr. andMrs. J. W. Hosford, is at home on a*10 days’ furlough. He was amongthe youngest lt;to enlist from Green-■field and served 20 months, overseasin the 2d division* litft field art 11-* Llery. Since the armistice he has been with the army bf occupation and was located for a time at Camp Ehrenbreitstrin, opposite | Coblenz, Germany. Since returning to America he has been receiving treatment in the U. S. hospital at Carlisle, Pa. It is thought that Private Hosford had .the honor of bjping the last Greenfield man overseas.Private Hosford landed in Prance, Dec. 31, 1917. He received his training at Camp Du Val da Hon, near the Swiss border. He took part in practically all the engagements with the 2d division. Among them were Belleau Woods, Chateau Thierry, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Blanc Mont” in the Champaigne and the Argonne. On two occasions the 2d division supported the 4th French armfy, the crack corps of France. On June 14, the 26th division, relieved the 2d division and L Co. passed very near where Hostovd was located. He did not know it, however, until too late and did not see any of the men. In all the time he was engaged he did not run across anyone he knew. Although he went through a lot ofheavy fighting he was never ipjured. At one time a shell killed the men directly in front and back of him, but he was not injured. The carnage in some of these battles was frightful and the fighting was so fierce that bodies remained unburied for days. Private Hosford enlisted in the regulars for four years and has about a year and a half left tp, serve, after which hewill be subjeof to call «ln ithe reservesfor three years* ,
