Last evonlng was ;i big event in the n history of t ho local colored colony. Shortly after 5 o’clock ail steps were j turned in the direction of the African Methodist church, where a rousing patriotic demonstration was staged inhonor of the six colored hoys, who leave Sunday morning for the hie can-moment at American Lake to receive their military IftUlnng.The earlier part of the evening was Riven over to a hotlhteotf* chick* n dinner that had been prepared by the j ladies belonging to the Pastor's Aid society. Resides the chicken, which Was the piece do resistance at the banquet. the tables groaned undet the weight of fluffy biscuits, vegetable side | dishes, cakes and ices. All ate to their heart’s content and the ladies were ! the recipients of many complimentsfrom the diners.After the dishes had been cleared I away a program, consisting of a mas-! terful address by the Rev. R House, pastor of the colored congregation, and a number of impromptu talks by different ones in attendance, together with vocal and Instrumental numbers, was given, |Trt making his address, the pastor combined morality and patriotism. Itwas a scholarly talk and made a deop impression on the recruits as well as on the entire assemblage.There is no necessity of speaking to you on patriotism, except to congratulate you on the stand you have taken.” he said. Our country now . calls upon us for aid and it is up to j us all to heed the call and do our re- i I sportive shares. These young men are offering their services on the firing line. but. although many months will elapse before they will reach the i trenrhes. the moral battle really starts when they leave their home and friends, because they will be besieged j by temptations that are sometimes hard to overcome.Tie then spoke along moral lines, telling them of the temptations that would be lying fn wait, and made an appeal to them to avoid all paths ; leading to them.Throughout the evening patriotism proved the keynote, and the colored j contingent. When they leave, will at- I wavs remember with pleasure the en- j joynble and instructive demonstration given them bv the Colored folks of Anaconda.
