Pope’s Fifteenth Kentucky into Hoe at the house on the left. Oapt. Foreman got lua remuaut of a company into a stable near by end did fine work for the rest of the day. Here wa9 the last effort of the day. Loomis and the Fifteenth and the stragglers held their positions. Loomis kept np bis fire til! night closed in upon tbe scene and the battle was over. On the left the position was sustained, though the rebel* managed to get a position for a battery far to the left. Oapt. Stone, however, succeeded in silencing thie battery. Col. Harris retired his brigade lo near the cross roads. Tbe new line was formed at dark, but there was no further advance made by tbe rebels. In the morning they were gODe, and we found ourselves in undisputed possession of tbe field. The enemy had fled io disorder, leaving Parsons’ captured battery on the 6eM, and were notibie to take away their wocmded.THE REBEI. LOSS.I have been over a part of the battlefield, and with Capt, Williams have counted what rebels I saw dead on the field.— Oa onr left and in front of where Starkweather tought, and ilaney and Doneiaon7M rebel brigades attacked, I saw and counted 211 diad. At the hospital, near the cross roads, there are two more who I saw dead aud eight wounded. A.t General Qbeatham’e hospital there are fifty-two dead and five hundred wouuded. In a pen iu front of where Harris fought, there are eighteen dead. I saw no more, but oee ot Gen. McCook’e aids reports a large number in a ravine on our right cover* d with brush. A gentleman from Harrods-burg reports two thousand wounded at that place. The 1st Tennessee lost two hnndred killed and wounded, and on the retreat the 6th, 18th, and 31at Tennessee regiments reported themselves cut op entirely. The First Confederate brigade waa destroyed, if their own htorier are to be believed. Brig. Gen. Goo. Maney was killed. A Col. Lewis was killed on our right. I know of no other officers, except a captain and first lieutenant lying unburied on our left.dflDj severely; J. Hummel, severely 5 Corp, lt;3. Hunter, slightly; Corp.
