Hlrhnrd (Chuck) Dlbert of Ohio City who died last January 22 in France from wounds received In ac tion on January 29 in CJermany.In a ceremony conducted at Fort Hayes, Columbus, the modal was accepted by the soldier’* brother, Wayne Dibert of Fort Wayne, from Chaplain \laxw« ||. pfc. Dibert, a brother of Mrs. Hugh Smith of Ohio City, was a farmer prior to his Induction Into service In August, 1942.The citation which accompanied the medal follows: “For heroismugainst the enemy on December 1, 1944. Acting aa leader of a fiO-mllllmeter mortar squad supporting an advancing rifle platoon, Pfc. IHhert intrepidly directed mortar fire by hand signal from his dangerous hill top position.“Although he was menaced by hostile automatic weapons andmall arms fire, pfc. IHhert con* tinned directing the Indispensable mortar shelling which permitted I he rifle platoon to advance sue-lt;• si.fully to its objectives. His valiant action on this occasion re-fleets lasting honor on him and exempllfb s high traditions of the military service.*»
