Carney is an air traffic control operator at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Mich., with the 2030th Communications Squadron.Marine CpI. James A. Crlger, son of Nelda M. Criger of 800 S. Santa, Fountain, was recently awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal. He is currently serving with 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is a 1980 graduate ofFountain-Fort Carson High School.Patrick 0. Felts, former counselor at Fort Carson has been promoted to education manager at the Army Recruiting Battalion of St. Louis, Mo. He was named Civilian of the Year at Fort Carson after developing an educational program that resulted in his battalion’s being 100 percent high school graduate or GED recipient.Through a major restructuring of the Navy’s Medical Corps, the local Naval Reserve Medical Group was incorporated into a 500-bed combat zone Fleet Hospital. The local units, Detachments “C” and “J” are attached to Naval Reserve Center Fort Carson and commanded by Lt. Judy Baca and Lt. Cmdr. Sandra Roybal. They are two of 17 units in five states who will make up the Naval Reserve Fleet Hospital 500 B Combat Zone 22, Headquartered in Olathe, Kan.Capt. Gary W. Longanecker, son of Skip Longan-ecker of 6335 Burgess Road, has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal at Fort Ord,Calif. Longanecker is a company commander with the 9th Infantry Regiment.Lt. Col. Stephen R. Martin, has assumed command of the 557th Flying Training Squadron, Air Force Academy. His wife, Susan, is the daughter of Henry W. and Neva M. Hill of 4804 AltezaDrive.Spec. 4 Benjamin H. Scott Jr., son of Air ForceMaster Sgt. Benjamin H. Scott Sr. of 5644 Mosquito Pass Drive, has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal at Fort Stewart, Ga. Scott is a dental laboratory specialist with the Army Dental Activity.Spec. 4 John A. Eckoldt, son of John R. Eckoldt of 2416 N. Logan Ave., has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal in West Germany. Eckoldt is a communications specialist with the 440th Signal Battalion. He is a 1985 graduate of Palmer High School.Timothy A. Sandner, son of Frank J. and Mary L. Sandner of 3615 N. Carefree Circle, has been promoted in the Air Force to the rank of first lieutenant. Sandner is an air weapons controller at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., with the 71st Tactical Control Flight.Navy Chief Petty Officer Charles R. Neighbors, son of Mitsko G. Parks of 1431 Cucharris, has been promoted to his present rank while serving with Strike Fighter Squadron-192, Naval Air Station, Yokosuka, Japan.Second Lt. Steele R. MacFarfane, son of W.R. and Rita MacFarlane of 7030 Night Hawk Place, has graduated from Air Force pilot training, and has received silver wings at Reese Air Force Base, Texas.Second Lt. Robert S. Schaab, son of Air Force Lt. Col. Richard W. and Gail K. Schaab of 217 Otis, has graduated from Air Force pilot training and has received silver wings at Reese Air Force Base, Texas.Karla K. Porter, daughter of Lynda Porter of 4702A Villa Circle, has been appointed a sergeant in the Air Force. Porter is a dental assistant at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, with the 3263rd Medical Services Squadron.Michelle May, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy M. May of 2514 Sierra Drive, has received a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship.
