Father Missing in Action, Son Receives His Air MedalTen-month old Robert Charlefc Heyen, son of Lt. and Mrs. | George S. Heyen, is the proud wearer of the Air Medal which was presented to him for his father, who is missing in action, at formal retreat ceremonies heldat the San Antonio Air Service Command, Kelly Field, Accompanying Bobbie-'' on the reviewing stand to receive the medal from Lt.Col. Lennox G. Haldeman, commanding officer of the 4505th A.A.F. Base Unit, was his mother, Mr3. Marjorie F.Heyen, Route 7, San Antonio.Lt. Heyen, 21, a native of San Antonio, and the son of Mr, andMrs. George R. Heyer,, 143 Rock-wood Court, is missing in action over New Ireland in the Southwest Pacific.A bombardler-navigator on a B-25 Mitchell bomber, Lt. Heyen had participated in more than 40 missions, and was wounded in action last year.He received . the medal for i meritorious achievement while participating in sustained operational flight missions In the Southwest Pacific are2 from Oct. 14, 1943, to Dec. 26, 1543, during which hostile contact was probable and expected. These operations consisted of bombing mis- ■ sions- against enemy airdromes and installations and attacks on enemy vessels and.shipping. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Lt. Heyen during these flights are worthy of commenda-tion.”Lt. Heyen graduated from Brackenridge High in 1939, then worked in the airplane repair section at Kelly Field until May, 1942, when he enlisted, in the army. He received training at Ellington Field and won his bombardier’s wings at Midland.Mrs, Heyen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs, William H. Ger-hardt, Route 7, San Antonio.Pilot on the same ship which was seen crashing to the earth by fellow flyers, was Lt. John Di Fillippo, son of Mr. and Mrs, John Di Fillippo of 325 Elizabeth, San Antonio, and a Brack-enrtdee sehooi mate of Lt. Heyen.
