Medals Awarded Naval Veterans At South HavenSOUTH HAVEN, Oct. 18—The Edward W. Thompson post No. 49, American Legion, met Thursday evening at the Legion home, with Andrew Sperti, the commander, presiding. One American Defense md 10 Victory medals for Navy veterans were brought to the meeting by Lieut.. Brown, chief of the Naval recruiting office in St. Joseph.Lt. Brown was unable to remain to present the medals himself owing to another engagement and Com-nander Sperti presented them.Dwain Murphy was awarded the American Defense medal and also the Victory medal.Others awarded the Victory medal were Neal Evans, Harold Underwood, William McNeal, John Davidson, Leo Diebold, Daniel J. Rooker, Carlton Myner, Rodney Daggett and Philip Ross.A resolution offered at the meeting to increase the annual dues owing to the increased cost of operation, was voted down. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting.A number of other veterans sligible for the Navy medals are expected to receive them at the next meeting, Thursday, Nov. 6. The observance of Armistice day was discussed and a conference will be held with the Legion auxiliary at the next meeting, Tuesday, Oct. 21, after which plans will be announced.
