Whllo In the hospital at Fairfax, Oracey had an opportunity of becoming famikar with many important facta. Ho occasionally overheard conversation* betwoon officers and the suvgeons of tho hospital. He saw Beauregard and Longntreet in conversation on aevoral occasions together, and Inferred that Longatreet held some Important commission. On the 6th Inst. Jeff. Davis waa at Fairfax, and spent several hours with Beauregard, Longstreet and other officer*. General Johnston wai understood tobe somewhere in the immediate neighborhood, but Gra* cey did not see him.On one occasion General Longstreet said to the surgeon that the rebel forces In front of Washington were so scattered that if attacked at any point In the lino there must necessarily be an abrupt retreat by all upon Manassas-* “our Gibraltar”-—where Yankee blood would refresh and enrich Virginia soil. They think It Impossible to be driven from this point. It was generally believed that Beauregard would burn the village of Fairfax Court House If compelled to evacaute it.
