Ln noises are _Kaatannn’s prehistoric-Ruin**; -.Kaukauna, Wis.f Oct. 7.—The mystery attending the prehistoric discoveries made here recently still continues, and seemingly no One is interested enough to investigate the matter further. Yesterday, while the men were continuing their work on the sewer, Bome 200 feet from where the first discoveries were made, they came upon more of these rocks, which show evidences of skillful workmanship, being all finely faced and of a uniform thickness. They were lying in different positions, some face downwards, some on edge, and still others with the facing upwards.Among those taken out is one whichhas a drill-hole some fiEteen inches in depth and about an inch and a half in diameter- These last discoveries were not accompanied by any ashes, lime, charcoalfor, in fact, anything out of common, and were laid in no particular position, as in the first discovery, where they lay in the shape of a wall. Another fact which bears investigar tion is that all the stone which were taken out at both places are about of one size and all shaped alike, and ar* Of a different kind and harder quality than those found in that immediate vicinity.[From the Hantaan* 8m.]George W. Lawe has a theory about the alleged prehistoric ruins recently unearthed in this city that- may set the whole matter at rest. He says that in 1823 the Stockbridge Indians, who were civilized to an unusual degree, located here and built a mill, the ruins of which are still visible, and constructed a dike or channel along the bank near where Third Street now is. He is of the opinion that the stone wall is the remains of a limekiln; that the ten feet of dirt covering it was washed in from above. This theory would dispose of the ashes, lime and cement, leaving^ only the large dressed etone remaining, ana this might be accounted for by glacial action.Heavy Cattle Iiosr-ttt TT7 rn Art** IQ
