At the time of his retirement, he was the chiefof Supply at Tyndall AFB, Fla His military decorations included the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Purple Heart, the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Prisoner of War Medal, and vari ous other awards. Mr. Butler retired from the Air Fbrce after 29 years of service in 1972. He then worked at Seaco Electric Co. of Panama City for 12 years. Mr. Butler was a Knight Commander with Star of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He was awarded theepHHHIHHHjMedal of the Diocese of Pensacola Tallahassee from St.Dominic’s Catholic Church on the 20th anniversary of the diocese. Mr.Butler is survived bv*his wife,Catherine Butler of Panama City; six children, Joan Oldham and husband, Robert, of Annapolis, Md., Col. Gerald Butler and wife, Janet, of Robins AFB, Ga, Mary Kay Swanberg of Sacramento, Calif , Margaret Neubauer and husband, Thomas, of PanamaButlerCity, Stephen Butler and wife, Trisha, of Panama City, and Gini Giddiens and husband, C.J., of Pt. St. Joe, Fla.; one brother, Francis Butler and wife, Gloria, of Bethany, 111.; two sisters, Barbara Kobel and husband, Ed, of Champaign, 111., and Marilyn Block and husband, Dan, of Broadlands, 111.; 14 grandchildren, Robert, William, and Mathew Oldham, Cheryl Burcham, Shelly Cross, Jill Long, Katie, and Kelly Swanberg, Brian, Alan, and Lori Neubauer, Christina Butler, and Rhianne and Erin Giddiens; three great grandchildren, Rachel Cross, Jacob and Allison Long; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mr Butler was preceded in death by an infant son, William Patrick and his sister, Verita Combs. Flineral services will be held Friday, Oct. 16,1998 at 10 a.m., at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Monsignor Crowe presiding. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be Judd Thorne, Ralph Smith, and the Knight and Ladies of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
