The veteran professional, who has held the post 18 years, is scheduled to resign, at the insistance of the park board, December 10.Action of the golf club came at a meeting at the municipal clubhouse last night, attended by 75 club members, Mayor L. Russell McKee and four members of the park board. It was agreed to submit the i eeoramendation In behalf of Byrnes to the golf committee and labor committee of the park board..Seeks Reinstatement.Byrnes, who did not attend last night’s meeting, yesterday applied for reinstatement as manager of the course. Four of the nine park hoard members attended the meeting, Haywood Scott, Mark Farrar, Claude Stum and Richard Craig.Craig explained that Byrnes’ application will he considered withother applications at a meeting ofhoard directors November 5. Craig said two applications have been filed so far, in addition to Byrnes’ application.Members of the golf committee of the park board are George Pearson, Dr. J. R. Howe and Stum. Pearson and Howe did not attend the meeting, and other park board members not present were B. S. Shadday, Roy Steele and F. E. L of 9,486,069 was a decrease of 135,113 from the 1946 total. The drop was mainly caused by poor weather at the start of the season.The National League drew an unofficial count of 10,390,289™ boosting the over-all total to a new high of 19,876,358. The paid total last year was 18,534,444.The world champion New York Yankees led all clubs by drawing 2,178,937. They took the pennant so easily that it may account for the drop from their last year gateof 2,265,512. The 1946 mark, set by the Yankees third-place club, stands as the major league record.The Brooklyn Dodgers’ drive to the National League flag attractedan unofficial 1,807,596 which topped the senior circuit turnstile count. This was a climb of 10,772 over 1946. Biggest increase was registered by the Pittsburgh Pirates—524,485 which boosted their total to 1,283,602, fourth best in the league. The New York Giants weresecond with 1,559,784 and the Chicago Cubs third with 1,364.039.A total of 3,369,666 fans watched 167 American league night games.
