Thomas sent two brigades to take this confederate brigade in out of the wet, -and these two brigades struck the greater part of the confederate army ready for battle. Other brigades were sent, and others and others, and the great fight on the left at Chiekamauga was open. All that story has been told, but no mention was ever made in official report of the six men who rode straight into that confederate brigade lost in the woods.’*
