PREPARINGTOLEAYEATLAKTAOfficers of Apartment of Gulf Xept Busy Packing Yesterday.NUUBEK OF TRANSFERS MADESome of the Men Will Go to Manila, While Others Go To Different Departments.The officers of the department of the gulf are rapidly preparing to 4eave the city, and by the last of the month the department will be only a matter of history-The men -were yesterrliy kept busy all day packing and arranging to closo the office at once. All of the orders Issued by the colonel commanding were packed and many of the books stored away during the day. It was stated that all the departments save that of the quartermaster would be ready to vacate the present place by the 1st of November.It Is possible that the quartermaster’s department ■ will be kept here for several months before all Its matters can be successfully arranged and all of Its goods disposed of. Several orders have been received at the department regarding the transfers of the clerks and employees or the department, moat of which take effect November 1st. AJl transfers so far received are as follows;General Royal T. Frank, commanding the department, will report to tho adjutant of the army for Instructions; Captain John T. Martin, acting Judge advocate, will return to his battery. A. First artillery. now stationed at Fort Rarancas, Pensacola, Fla,; Major J. M. K. Davis, Inspector general, will Join his battery. F, First artillery, now stationed at Fort Screven, Tybee island. Georgia; Major John H. Calef, First artillery. Will report of Major General Merrjtt. commanding the department of the east.Frank Buss, chief clerk, Is now under orders to go to Manila, to which point he will proceed about the I3ih Instant. Clerks Paul B. Harm, Albert Fensch aJid Paul Kroeber have been assigned to headquarters In tho department of Missouri, Omaha, Neb.; Clerks Herman J. Rick and Charles II. Jordan will go to the department of Texas, headquarters at San Antonio; Clerks Frank -Morgan, William H. Sykes and Messenger Joseph Young will go to the department of the east, headquarters at Governor's Island, N. Y.; Bartow Mercer will go to Washington as clerk in the office of the major general commanding; Messenger Patrick J. Ford will go to the department of Colorado.headquarters In Denver.
