Accompanied by Mrs. Schachtner, who came from New York to join | him at Minneapolis, he is visiting j his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur j Schachtner. The two will be here; until Oct. 22 or 23. when they ex-pect to leave for a visit in New J York. Afterwards, they will maketheir home in Carroll.Schachtner, who had the rating storekeeper, second class, enlisted in the navv in May, 1942. Hehad 51 points at the time he wasdischarged.On sea duty for 36 months, he I served on the light cruiser, USS Brooklyn, from 1942 until February. 1943. Then he was transferred I to the USS Yorktown.As a member of the crew of the Yorktown, he took part in naval battles off Marcus Island, Wake, the Marshall, Gilbert and Caroline Islands, Peleliu. Marianas, Philippines, Formosa, China coast and Okinawa. He was with AdmiralHalsey s Third Fleet out of Tokyo when the war ended. He returnedto the States Sept. 13.
