First of Amarillo's war dead to be returned from World War II battlefield graves has arrived in San Francisco aboard the funeral ship Honda Knot.The body of Lt. Rex H. Blanken- I |ship of Amarillo will be sent first!.from San Francisco to Distribution Center No. 10. Fort Worth Quartermaster Depot. The body then will be brought to Amarillo under escort.Bodies of four other Panhandle war dead were aboard the [ Honda Knot. The list included the names of L4. Edmund P. Bvars of Childress, Pfc. Donald L. Stewart and CpI. James M. Fraz- ! ier, both of Pampa, and Lt. Glynn C\ Moore of Wellington.Lieutenant Blankenship was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville A.! Blankenship, who operate a dairy on Burlington Street south ofLlano Cemetery. He was 23 yearsold at the time of his death.The young fighter pilot was killed in a • crash “somewhere in the Pacific,” April 6. 1944. He had goneoverseas in January, 1944.
