ARTS AND mtFTM FXHIBIT ADMIHKD BY MANY I’EOPLKThe people of 1*oi dshurg and I vicinity feel very grateful to Col.(I Lundy for inviting them to admireII the arts and crafts exhibit last I Sunday in the Area Knglneei’s building, prepared by the Camp internet*. ,Crowds were surging through the long building from one to six o'clock, the hours appointed by the Commanding Officer to enjoy thi* privilege. It is almost incredible that theJapanese internees could have dug out of the desert land inside the camp ordinary roots of desert growth( and by cutting, carving ami polishing transform them into) things of beauty and utility.Only the crudest of instrumentswere used, little hack saws, small chisels and files and mostly piecesof broken glau*. Some worked patiently for days and days on a single exhibit. From crooked roots there were carved serpents, animals, desk sets and on large! pieces of wood, artistic female figures and many dogs, horsesI row boats, ships and articles ofevery conceivable design.Mineral exhibits from other western states filled one table.|, All afternoon soldiers andguards were busy explaining theII exhibits and showing the guests livery courtesy possible.i- Thanks, again, Col. Lundy.Pnr WAR TttYKDA anil AT AM PR
