Joseph Todd Killed In South PacificFirst Lieutenant Joseph M. Todd, 25, former Flora boy, was killed in an airplane crash on Tuesday of lastweek, September 29 in the Southwest Pacific area, according to word received Tuesday of this week by his parents from the War Department. Lieut. Todd was the son of Garfield ** J Todd of Young America and Mrs. lt;** , Orah Todd of Elkhart.The young lieutenant, a bombardier, was a native of Carroll county and graduated with highest honors from the Carrollton high school. He action in the battle of Midway and in the Solomons. Lieut Todd attended Indiana Tech at Fort Wayne and was employed by Inland Steel at East Chicago at the time of his enlistment about eighteen months ago. He has been overseas since last spring.Survivors besides the parents are two brothers, Robert of Elkhart; Spurgeon of East Chicago and two sisters, Mrs. Michael Collura, Elkhart; and Mrs. Donald Rosezelle, of Goshen.The message from the War Department, although it gave no details of the accident, stated that Lieut, a- Todd met his death in action on an island out from Australia.
