He Is 89 yeare old. and pretty spry for ono of-that age, too.- C. E. Knodle of Carl township, was the youngest, 64. -J .There wsre two voterana of the Mexican war at. the. reunion. They were Capt. E. Y. Burgan. and William Low-rey. both of Corning. Both these gentlemen served In the civil war, too. Capt. Burgan will be 85 years old on the 9th of tbt6 month, mat Friday. Mr. Lowrey ia 84. • They both' had fine times at the reunoo. - • ■ .Eil Kennedy, of Nodaway, ’was certainly enjoying himself. He'tarried over for u visit with hla son. Fred,Former Corning Cltlieh Who Made Good with Bell Telephone.A number of tho old time residents of Corning were very much surprised last Thursday when Oharltg McDaniel and wife drove their automobile Into lown, on their way from a vlait in Si. Paul, where they had been since the 17th of July. Mr. McDaniel was one of the popular citizens of Corning 35 years ago. At that time he was employed in the hardware store of A. M. Beymer. When the telephone system was in its infancy tie got a leave ot absence for two weeks and went to Hannibal. Mo, where be got an insight Into the telephone business. That settled things for Charlie, and he has been in the telephone business over ainco. Ho put up tho first line ever built In Corning, from A. R. Crip-pen’s home to hi* place of business, in 1877. He also put up other private lines here. After two years In Hannibal Mr. McDaniol wont to Kansas City, where he has ever since been identified -with the Bell -Telephone people. The first exchanges were put up in 1878. In 1879 Mr. McDaniel built the Hannibal exchange, and wo understand he superintended the construction ot practically all the exchanges of the Hell system In Missouri; Kansas and Oklalioma. He is now 65 years of age. and has been retlrpd on half pay. Thie will bo his salary ((2,500 annually)‘until ho reaches the age of 70, when he will he on the pension list. Mr. McDaniel and his wife •havo nothing to engage their-attention except to enjoy life, and they spent much of the time in summer louring the country In their car. Gourd. The ceremony. was performed at 8 o’clock, by Rev. H. O. Silts, In .'- the presence of the near relatives. The bride was born and raised in this locality and has many frionds here. Her wedding gown was a pretty p»lo blue serge. Tho bride and groom left Friday for Tuttle, Colo, to visit the groom’s parets.
