A wish comes true for Dora Simpkinsi . I• * •To the editor •A wish came true after 68 years for Mrs, Dora Simpkins of Cole Mountain, ffiwassee.It had been 68 years since Mrs. Julia T. Simpkins had been laid to rest in the small family cemetery on Cole Mountain; Her grave marked with a simple rough stone how has a marker. A bronze plaque mounted on a pink granite base is now at the head of her grave.:The marker carries her name, dates of birth and death plus the Seal, of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, ! ■ •'Mrs. Julia T. Simpkins was a part of the War Between the States and a woman who, to keep and feed her family, ran the Ingles Perry for the Confederate Army and was a member of the forces of a war long ago.The spirit of this woman still lives on in the people of Pulaski County who rally to causes they believe right and true. The United Daughters presented the marker to Mrs. Dora Simpkins on Julia T. Simpkins Day inHiwassee recently. The granite base was provided by Jeffrey Blackmon of Ideal Monument Co., Mt. Airy, N.C.Mr. Blackmon has been a part of the Hiwassee commun-ity for years. 1.The cemetery is now clean andin proper order and all other graves have been marked with plates provided by Mark Bower of Bower Funeral Service, Pulaski. It has been a community effort to clean-up,; instruct and place markers on the grave sites of the ones interred with Julia SimpkinsTSpecial thanks also should be added for Steve Cox, Jeffrey Altizer, Jerry -E; Smithy Burl D. Bowman, Marvin McCambridge and Charles W. Farris plus the members of the Hiwassee Highlands Resource Committee . who made it ail possible.Myself and Burl Bowman received the quiet thank you as Mrs. Dora Simpkins looked at the new marker and said that it was a wish come true.I take this opportunity to pass Dora’s thank you cm to all who were a part of this and would also like to add my own thanks.W.
