Airman Receives Oak Leaf Cluster To AF Air MedalHEADQUARTERS U. S. ARMY, PACIFIC—Chief Warrant Officer W-2 Merrill Herrick of the United States Army distinguished himself by meritorious achievement during sustained a. rial combat support of ground forces of the Republic of South Vietnam during the period of April 3, 1962 to April 26, 1962.Chief Warrant Officer Herrick received his first oak leaf cluster, indicating the second Air Medal award he has received. He earned his initial AirCWO MERRILL HERRICKMedal award for duty during the period of Jan. 26, 1962 to April 2, 1962.During the most recent period, CWO Herrick actively participated as a crew member of an army aircraft in at least 25 combat operational or aerial reconnaissance missions in the combat zone or over hostile territory. On various occasions his aircraft was the target of unfriendly small arms and automatic weapons fire. At all times he displayed the highest order of air discipline and acted in accordance with the best traditions of the service.“By this outstanding degree of professionalism and strict attention to duty, CWO Herrick has brought great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army,” the citation read.CWO Herrick is the son of R. A. Herrick of Afton.
