The jet crashed in a pine forest in Gulf County a few miles from the Overstreet Bridge onFlorida Highway 386 east of Tyndall. The pilot and his wife also resided on base.The aircraft accident was first reported to local authorities by the Florida Marine Patrol which witnessed the crash from a patrol boat offshore from the crash site. The marine officer stated he had seen a parachute deploy but did not see it open.Tyndall officials said evidently the aircraft was too low at the time to allow parachutes of the two pilots to fully deploy. Both men had apparently ejected from the aircraft before it landed in a pine forest a few miles from the Overstreet Bridge on Florida Highway 386.The explosion caused by the impact of the aircraft resulted in a grass fire which was brought under control by Tyndall fire-fighters who sped to the scene.
