Thomas Will Attend.Thursday and Friday, December 6 and 7, the reunion of the Nineteenth Iowa Infan try will be held in Mt. Pleasant. Tne only two members of that famous regiment who are living in this city, will go to Mt. Pleasant to commemorate the famous charge at Prairie Grove, Ark., which took place December 6, 1862.These are Captain W. H. C. Jaques and Edward G. Thomas, the latter postmaster in tne South Ottumwa office.Not only will the famous charge beuppermost in the minds of the veterans who will be present at the reunion, representing the shattered remnants of the regiment, but the hard march from Springfield to Prairie Grove preceding the battle, will also bo commemorated.A feature of the exercises at Mt. Pleasant will be a banquet held Friday evening and given by the Mt. Pleasant corps of the W. R. C.Tells of Battle.In speaking of the famous charge. Captain Jaques said this morning:“I was at the time a private in the ranks of Company *‘D” of the regiment. The charge was made about 11 o'clock In the morning under the command of Lleutenant-Colonel McFarland. McFarland was later shot off his horse.*'The rebels, who numbered about 24,000 men were on a ridge under the command of General Thomas Hindman. When ew went Into the battle our forces numbered only 6,000 men. The Nineteenth Iowa occupied a position in the center of the formation, with the 94th Illinois on the left and the Twentieth Wisconsin on the right of us.“The battle was long and hard.
