32jhd Armor Tankers Adopt Stfay Deer as Unit MascotFEIEDBERG, Germany (Special) A 7-month-old deer walking down the street is now an accepted sight here.The deer, mascot of Co A, 1st Medium Tank Bn, 32nd Armor, 3d Armd Div, and more particularly on accepted member of the family of . Sgt Morris Nixon, company supply sergeant, was found in the Friedberg training area. It was sick and had bleeding feet.Tankers cared for the deer and named it Clyde. The name was changed to. Heidi when a slight error was discovered.The deer was immediately adopted by Nixon and is now a devoted companion, following -rhim as he goes about his duties.Partial to Fatigues Heidi will Come to anyone wearing f htigues, arid she is accustomed to soldiers petting her, Nixon said. “Civilian clothing seei- to make herwary and she is definitely aloof to those. who wear it.” .-.U'v- •She has the run of the battalion; area and usually. stays: within It, apparently being partial to tankers. •• ■ *. _-Her diet consists of milk and green vegetables and an occasional rose or dandelion. Although she plays willingly with Nixon’s two dauehters. she is not allowed inthe kitchen since she has difficulty standing on the slippery tile floor.Heidi accompanies the unit on all field activities and Is allowed to wander at will.
