DE PUE MAN FIFTH WAR FATALITYSgt. Wayne Buffinger Died In Belgium On October 26De Pue’s fifth fatality of World War II is Sgt. Wayne Grant Buffinger, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Buffinger, who were informed by the war department in a telegram Sunday morning that he had died Oct. 26 in Belgium.He had been a radio technician with an anti-tank division, but recently was transferred to the field artillery. Sgt. Buffinger was known locally for his prowess as an amateur radio j operator and at the time of induction Oct. 28, 1942, was employed as an! operator of the state highway patrol communication system at Pontiac.Inducted at Scott Field, he later served at Camp Wood, Texas, Camp Brucker, Ala., and Ft. Meade, Md., before going to England March 22, j t»944. He then went to France with the invasion forces and had served in ! Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany.The telegram did not indicate whether he had been fatally wounded, but it is expected further information will be received by the family from the war department.His last letter home was written Oct. 23 and was received here Nov. 8.1 A native of Princeton, he was born Feb. 23, 1922, and was graduated from De Pue high school with the class of 1940. He later attended the University of Illinois.Surviving are his parents, and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Webb and Mrs. j Larry Gagin, both of Robbs, 111.
