Among our visitors from Logansport was Major \V. M. Gordon, who claims Kokomo as his homo and is thinking some of locating here. He attended • he Normal col’ege before the war and taught school in Howard countyand helped to raise Company E, Thirteenth Indiana Volunteer infantry, he being the only officer left. The company was cal'ed Kokomo Riflemen, and he says that Company E helped to capture the first, cannon of the war at the battle of Rich Mountain. Va.. July 11, 1861. When Capt. Kirkpatrick became collector of internal revenue Mr. Gordon was appointed district depu y and was sent to Lo-gansport to take charge of the northwestern counties. He is a physician by profession and is a graduate both of Indiana medical (But'er) and Keokuk medical college of Iowa. He wascommissioned surgeon with rank ofmajor by Governor Porter and assigned to the Third regiment Indianastate militia. For several years he!% %l Iwas a physician with the Sax and Fox Indians. Owing to ill hea th which he holds as a heritage for service in the Civil war. he was compelled to __ give up his practice as a physician.
